unshackled: Why A Vote For McCain Is NOT A Vote For Life

  • randplaty · 1 year ago
This "reduce the number of abortions" thing is just rhetoric also. Obama wants to reduce the number of abortions but has he done anything as a senator or state senator to reduce abortions? No.

Its not the government's role to eliminate the need and unfortunate circumstance behind abortion. The government's role is to protect and ensure "inalienable rights." As such, it needs to pass a law to protect the rights of unborn children.

There's a huge underground market for drugs. There's untold violence due to drug trafficking, much of which could be reduced by legalizing drugs. Should drugs be legalized? Of course not.

If it's wrong then it's wrong. Abortion isn't just an "unfortunate situation." It's wrong. If you don't believe it's murder, then fine, reduce abortions. But if you believe that abortion is murder, you have to outlaw it as a matter of principle.

There are many unfortunate situations that cause people to prostitute themselves. Does this mean that prostitution should be legalized and we should merely work to reduce the amount of prostitution by providing welfare for abused women? Of course not. Prostitution is wrong and should be illegal.

Don't be swayed by McLaren and other neo-evangelicals who want to be cool and fit in with society. Sometimes Christian values just aren't cool and we have to deal with that.

On the contrary, I believe it is not the government's role to interfere with their citizen's lives. I also believe drugs should be legalized. Seriously. :)

I'm tired of the whole Randy Alcorn "do what's not cool" rhetoric. Christian values are important; they just should not be legislated on to secular culture.

Okay, do you believe prostitution should be legalized also? So you're a libertarian then?
  • tava · 1 year ago
Wow! Way to go! Since when is killing babies worse than killing Iraqis or anyone else for that matter?!
  • EH · 1 year ago
Right on, Art. You can't legislate morality. You can't invoke a Baldwin-run theocracy (*cringe* *shivers*), and expect these problems to go away. Thomas Jefferson, demonized by conservatives, foresaw this union of church and state, and fighted vehemently to oppose it. I would vote for agnostic, slave-holding Jefferson before I would vote for Baldwin.

A Vote for Obama will guarentee more tax paid abortions and also the passge of the freedom of choice act. We pay $300 million a year to PLanned parenthood in grants from OUR taxes....Obama has promised to increase this, McCain has promised to stop paying a very profitable abprtion industry tax payers money.

Obama has also promised to pass the freedom of chpoice act, essentially outlawing ANY future legislation at the state level to further restrict the murder of the unborn child.

Abortion has killed 50,000,000 biabies since the passge of ROE v Wade....thats over 1,000,000 per year....what war has caused that mortality rate?>????

As a Christian we are to take care of the least of these....we are to fight for social justice......WHO is more defenseless than an unborn child in the womb?

"In 2003, he signed the law that made the intact dilation and extraction procedure illegal under some circumstances. Since this surgery is only used in 0.17% of abortion cases in the US, it was a moot point, but was seen as a huge victory for the pro-life side."

Now, multiply 50,000,000 (the number of abortions since R v W) times .17%.......do you still consider this a MUTE point?>???

YOur justification and relativism clearly indicates your lack of beleif in His sancticy of life, His moral law exemplified by Jesus in taking care of the least which are laid out in His holy word.

Art, if you think drugs should be legal. perhaps you should volunteer at a ministry for drug addicts, or you should become a Guardian ad Litem and represent abused children...I do both....maybe you wont have such an ignorant view when you have to represent a child who has been beaten within an inch of their life thanks to drugs.

"How long is it going to take before we offer a faith-based approach to reducing abortions by helping out with better sex education, healthcare, housing and counseling?"

I volunteer at a pregnancy center too....my question is, is how long will we continue to pay for murder using tax dollars??? Why dont we take the $300 million we give to Planned Parenthood every year and use it for sex education and healthcare...which is what McCain wants to do...Obama does not.
  • EH · 1 year ago
@ UFBret: Art never said he is pro-abortion. What he did say is that it's not the secular government's business to legislate morality. You need to settle down, lil' yella.
  • UFBret · 1 year ago
As Chritians, we arent to be common....we are to be consecrated, we to be whole. We arent supposed to compartmentalize our lives... we are to be Holy in one domain of our lives and not the other, we arent called to just worship, we are called to be worshippers...in the eternal, present sense...meaning always, not just on Sunday.

You say the secular government shouldnt legislate morality?>????? I guess murderers should walk, dealers should walk, child rapists should walk...arent these moral issues??? What Art diplays is what we Cjrisitans call relativism....essentially that my morals dont neccisarily equate to your morals....well, Hitler has a feeling about how to rule and govern, who are we to say he shouldnt of put millions in the oven.....thats a quote from THe Tonics song ,called "Spare Change"...look it up.

Hey this is great….Obama, by executive order, plans on increasing abortion by funding it overseas:

    http://apnews.myway.com/article/20081109/D94BM1...

Also, Planned parenthoods president and abortion activist Cecile Richards shares her take on Obamas help to the abortion industry:

    more funding for abortions

    abortion for military women overseas

Forcing doctors to do prescribe what they consider morally objectionable

    etc etc

    http://www.usnews.com/blogs/on-women/2008/11/7/...

I thought Obama wanted to help lower abortion rates???

@ Cindy: "Prostitution is wrong and should be illegal."

Outlawing something merely because we believe it's "wrong" is a highly subjective matter.
  • todd henry van voorst · 1 year ago
agreed. i began to feel that i was being taken advantage of recently as well with regard to my beliefs. catapulting abortion into the limelight for the sake of engaging my passions, however, what has been done, as you accurately point out, with the party elected under that guise? i voted third party this year as well. your thoughts are interesting to read, great insight, very articulate. thanks for sharing.

Wow...to compare the war dead (of all wars since Roe v Wade was passed) to 50,000,000 dead babies is ...well....uncomparable.

You also write: Brian McLaren is absolutely correct that the decision would then go back to the states to decide; and according to polls, most states would not criminalize abortion

Well, Obama has promised to pass FOCA, which ELIMINATES states rights to pass any legilsation restricting abortion....scary for anyone who believes in states rights, much less for pro-lifers.

You also mention a terrific hoax that has been played out by liberal groups ...Abortion HAS GONE DOWN under Bush.

But all that aside....how about Obama's Mexcio City Policy? Why would he have signed that order at 5:06 on a Friday night?

How do you feel that our tax dollars arent just going to Planned Parenthood to kill the unborn here in the states, but now we are paying for abortions overseas?
