unshackled: Review: Marsedit 2 vs. ecto 3 Beta

    Hi Art - thanks for giving both MarsEdit and Ecto such a thorough try. I appreciate your attention to detail. Here's an interesting thought for why Adriaan and I don't need to compete too intensely with each other: 99% of bloggers are still using the web interface.

    If we compete against each other we're just fighting over 1%. I'm much more interested in getting more people off the web interfaces and on to the desktop. Glad to hear that you've been won over :)

    It's really up to users whether they prefer ecto or MarsEdit. I find them both different kinds of workhorses.

    I've been using ScribeFire, lately, never looked into other options, I stumbled upon it. Your 110% right, not using the web interface of any blogging software is steps better than using it

    @Adriaan

    I'm not so sure they are different workhorses. I expected to find them so, but came away more impressed by how similar they were, and how well both worked. As a web developer, I assumed I would be more impressed by Marsedit and the text editor. But as I mentioned, the WYSIWYG editor was very well done.

    Different, yes. Markably so? No.

    A fair review: ecto's support of custom fields, which are incredibly handy in the new version of WordPress, is another factor in its favour, although I'm sure D. Jalkut will add it in the next version of MarsEdit.

    it took me searching mars edit vs ecto 2008 to get to your link that led me finally to here, but I'm glad that I found a more current definite review on ecto and mars edit. I like the thorough review and because of this, I will be going with ecto. I'm using qmana because it is free, but doesn't look like they are producing or upkeeping the project anymore. Too bad because it wasn't that bad.

    Sweet, I'm done tons of looking into and asking around. Ecto keeps winning the battle. :) Thanks for sharing. I found your site via good search by the way. Cheers!

    I have been using BlogJet for my PC for a while, and I am really satisfied. It's really powerful, and I am sure that it helps my blogging. Now, I want to start using a similar software for my iMac and my MacBook.

    I have tested both Mars Edit and Ecto for a few days, and I am not really sure which one to go with. But I agree that Ecto might be the better choice, the reason maybe because you are using it and so is Darren Rowse (of ProBlogger) :-)

    Thanks for the review.
